Jack Hunter: 5 votes against John Boehner

I want to quickly share some news about a few YAL PAC-endorsed candidates from this past week.

As you may have already heard, this past Thursday Congress voted to reinstate Rep. John Boehner as Speaker of the House. Only Twelve House Republicans voted against Rep. Boehner—a vote that takes real guts.

And of those twelve, five were YAL PAC-endorsed candidates (and four more were strongly considered for an endorsement). These five constitutionalists were:

    Rep. Justin Amash (MI)

    Rep. Walter Jones (NC)

    Rep. Raul Labrador (ID)

    Rep. Thomas Massie (KY)

    Rep. Ted Yoho (FL)

Although we didn't have the votes to unseat Rep. Boehner, the good news is we are finally building a coalition in the House that is not afraid to stand up to leadership and vote on principle. For decades, we only had Ron Paul, but now our numbers are growing.

The bad news is the Republican Establishment will not forget these "traitors." No doubt there will be political consequences down the road. For example, even before this vote, Rep. Amash was removed from his committee assignment by Rep. Boehner and his cronies because he didn't vote "with the team" enough.

Ultimately, this is why it's important you and I remain engaged and support these candidates when it comes time for re-election. Not only will they need to defeat a Democratic opponent, but they will face opposition by their own party's entrenched establishment. And you and I know special interest money will not be on their side.

For now, keep an eye out for these constitutionalists in the news, and the YAL PAC will continue to stand on principle—and keep you informed.

YAL PAC Candidate Wins in Kentucky

In case you missed the news, the YAL PAC-endorsed candidate -- Thomas Massie -- destroyed the other Establishment Republicans and won his primary on Tuesday! And just a few days before the election, the local news reported it would be a very tight race. But, guess what? It was a 16 point blowout!

The YAL PAC bundled $14,130 for Massie's campaign -- thanks to your donations -- and YAL's political action arm placed more than 200,000 phone calls to Kentucky voters to educate them on the issues.

The result? Another Kentucky "Randslide".

So, with Kurt Bills winning his Senate primary in Minnesota last Friday, and Thomas Massie winning his primary on Tuesday, the YAL PAC is 2 for 2 in the past week!

We are pumped up right now! And this is all a result of your generous donations to make our mission of winning on principle possible. Our message and our ideas are winning!

There are more candidate endorsements coming soon and even bigger plans for YAL over the summer. Trust me, our campaign efforts for 2012 have only begun, and I hope to continue to earn your support.

“Ron Paul Wins Kentucky”

At The American Spectator blog, James Antle echoes my sentiments concerning Thomas Massie’s win and Ron Paul’s influence:

Ron Paul finished a distant second in the Kentucky primary, despite his son being the state’s junior senator. But a Paul supporter — a backer of both Ron and Rand (who reciprocated) easily won the Republican nomination in the fourth congressional district.

Thomas Massie defeated his nearest opponent in a four-way race 44.8 percent to 28.6 percent. The district has been represented by a Republican for all but six years since 1967 — when quite conservative Democrat Ken Lucas held the seat — making Massie a heavy favorite to win the general election in November. Politico referred to it as “another Randslide.”

This is part of the movement-building I’ve been writing about for a while that will have impact beyond Tampa.
