Citizen Candidate Miller motors ‘Cool Cruisers’

GLENDORA, California – April 9, 2012 – David Miller for Congress, his staff and volunteers joined La Verne’s downtown area where the La Verne Chamber of Commerce hosted a wide variety of exhibitors displaying the community’s cache of hot rods, restored classic cars, food vendors, community organizations and candidates for public office at the Cool Cruise 2012 La Verne Business Expo on Saturday.

With weather typical of Southern California and ambiance enhanced by locally legendary classic rock cover band, The Answer, many exhibitors showcased their unique and vibrantly restored classic cars and hot rods.  Local family-owned small businesses also attempted to broaden their networks to include the community which is driven by threads of entrepreneurialism, and plays a key role in the tight-knit fellowship for which La Verne is historically renowned.

Joining the festivities in La Verne was David Miller, a family man and small business owner from Glendora who campaigns to represent California’s 32nd Congressional District after the November election.  Miller was eager to speak with voters while a squad of his campaign volunteers swept the downtown area, distributing campaign literature and pocket Constitutions that included the Declaration of Independence.

Miller spoke of the vital role founding documents play for citizens to keep their government in check.  “Without an understanding of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and other founding documents, citizens cannot know the legal limits of the federal government and what governmental abuses of power were unacceptable to our founders.  Every day, more citizens are awakening to find that the economic downturn is caused largely in part by abuses of power by government.”

“Extra-constitutional regulations make it nearly impossible for businesses small and large to remain operational, and to keep Americans working.  Many of our current legislators step outside of their oath to defend and protect the Constitutional limitations they swore to uphold,” Miller said.

“These politicians are ultimately destroying the purchasing power of the dollar by ignoring the limits of their Congressional privileges specified in Article 1, section 8 of the Constitution,” said Miller, “and they are only worsening the struggles of American families.  The more educated and involved citizens become the better chance we have to fight these abuses of power that affect us all.”

Miller will attend the Meet the Candidates Legislative Reception hosted by the San Dimas Chamber of Commerce on May 25, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm at the San Dimas Civic Center.

David Miller is running for California’s 32nd Congressional District as a ‘citizen candidate.’  His campaign emphasizes restoring obedience to the Constitution, legalizing freedom, and maintaining America’s tradition of economic prosperity.

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement on Senate Republicans’ Vote to Block Job Growth Through U.S. Infrastructure Development

By DNC Press

Following Thursday’s vote by Republicans in the U.S. Senate to block legislation that would create jobs and grow the economy through the development of our nation’s infrastructure, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement:

“It’s almost hard to believe: This is now the third time in a matter of weeks that Republicans in the Senate have voted in unison to block part or all of the American Jobs Act, which would create jobs and strengthen our economy. First, Republicans filibustered the President’s jobs bill in its entirety—then, when President Obama and Democrats tried to move forward with legislation that would prevent hundreds of thousands of teachers and first responders from losing their jobs, the Senate GOP shot that down, too.

“Today, they did it again—voting to block legislation that would make an immediate $50 billion investment in America’s roads and bridges and a $10 billion investment to create a bipartisan National Infrastructure Bank. This bill would create hundreds of thousands of jobs for construction workers who will rebuild our nation’s crumbling roads, bridges, rails and runways—and it would help transform our infrastructure to keep American businesses competitive in the global economy. But Republicans keep standing in the way.

With too many Americans looking for work and middle-class families struggling to get ahead, this is unacceptable. It’s time for Republicans in Congress to stop putting partisan politics before the needs of the American people. It’s time for them to come to the table and work with the President to pass the American Jobs Act and move our country forward.”

"No games. No politics. No delays."

Yesterday, President Obama was joined by teachers, veterans, small business owners, construction workers and first responders, as he sent the American Jobs Act to Congress and urged them to pass it right away.

This is a bill that will put people back to work all across the country. This is the bill that will help our economy in a moment of national crisis. This is a bill that is based on ideas from both Democrats and Republicans. And this is the bill that Congress needs to pass. No games. No politics. No delays. I’m sending this bill to Congress today, and they ought to pass it immediately.

David Plouffe, Senior Advisor to the President, will answer your questions about the American Jobs Act today at 5 p.m. EDT during White House "Office Hours" - use the hashtag #WHChat on Twitter to ask a question and follow along at @WHLive.  Be sure to also follow Political Spectrum Publishing on Twitter at @PublishPolitics.

Better Benefits, Better Health for Small Businesses

This week, we will be marking the one year anniversary of enactment of the Affordable Care Act and kicking off the Better Benefits, Better Health Initiative. This initiative will highlight the important information consumers, families and businesses need to get the benefits of reform.

We’re kicking off the initiative by highlighting some important information for small business owners. Small business owners and their employees have always gotten the short end of the stick, paying an average of 18% more for insurance that often covers less than the policies sold to their larger competitors. And small businesses lack the purchasing power that larger employers have. That's changing thanks to the health care law signed by President Obama one year ago.

Thankfully, the Affordable Care Act is helping small business owners get quality affordable coverage for their families and their employees.

Here are some important things to know:
If you own a small business with fewer than 25 full time-equivalent employees, you may qualify for a small business tax credit to help offset the costs of covering your employees.  Small business owners can visit www.irs.gov/sbhtc to learn more.

We estimate that up to 4 million small businesses could be eligible to receive these tax credits to make employees’ health coverage more affordable. And the tax credits will be worth a combined total of $40 billion over ten years.

Employer-based plans that provide health insurance to retirees ages 55-64 can get financial help through the www.errp.gov to learn more.

If one of your workers has been uninsured because of a pre-existing condition, he or she may be eligible to join the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan.  To find out about plans available in your State, please visit: www.pcip.gov.

If you are in a new insurance plan, insurance companies cannot charge you or your workers a deductible or copays for recommended preventive services, like mammograms and flu shots. Click here to find a list of preventive services that will be covered without copays.

In addition, insurance companies are prohibited from capping the dollar amount of care you or your employees can receive in a lifetime, or dropping coverage due to an honest mistake on an application when someone gets sick.  And they have to spend at least 80% of your premium dollars on health care and quality improvements instead of overhead, salaries or administrative expenses – or provide you and your workers a rebate.

Advise the Advisor: What I’m Hearing About Small Business

Good afternoon,

What's it like to have President Obama drop in on your web chat? Well, on Tuesday, I found out.
During the Winning the Future Forum on Small Business in Cleveland, Ohio, we held an online discussion to go over the answers to discussion questions I posed on WhiteHouse.gov as part of our new "Advise the Advisor" program. The President joined us towards the end to respond to a few ideas.

I've posted some of your ideas, my responses and the video of yesterday's event which you can view at http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/2011/02/23/president-obama-drops-online-forum-small-business?utm_source=email99&utm_medium=image&utm_campaign=advise.

Did you know that small businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating two out of every three new jobs in America?

President Obama is committed to helping small businesses succeed by making America the best place in the world to do business. He has signed into law 17 new tax cuts for small businesses. He launched the National Wireless Initiative to help bring high-speed wireless Internet access to 98 percent of Americans. And he launched Startup America, an initiative to celebrate, inspire and accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the nation.

It's also important to take the time to listen to folks on the ground about the challenges they face every day. That's why we went to Cleveland this week to talk directly with small business owners, and it's why your "Advise the Advisor" feedback is so important.

If we out-innovate, out-educate and out-build our global competitors, the future is ours to win. That's a challenge that we will tackle together, and I look forward to the work ahead.

Sincerely,

Austan Goolsbee
Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers
