Gary Johnson: Less freedom doesn’t make anyone safer

Friends,

Why is it that Government almost always responds to a crisis or tragedy by attacking the rights and privacy of law-abiding citizens?

After 9/11, we got the Patriot Act, which put into motion one of the most unpatriotic attacks on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and individual liberty in our lifetimes.  Everything from our phones to our emails to even our library cards and bank accounts became the government’s “business”.  Under this continuing attack, the NDAA and other laws have taken us to a point where citizens can be detained indefinitely and, in fact, assassinated in the name of protecting us.

Now, in the aftermath of Newtown and other recent tragic and senseless crimes, Obama and his friends in Congress are reacting by -- you guessed it -- doing two basic things:  First, they are rolling out Executive Orders and legislation to further chip away at a Second Amendment that even the Supreme Court has ruled grants us individual rights to keep and bear arms to protect ourselves.  And second, they are clamoring for deeper and broader background checks and looking for ways to get more information about our “mental health”.

In short, their solution is more government, less freedom for us, and more of our information going into massive government databases.  Somebody has to say: STOP.

Somebody has to speak the truth and stand up for the fact that, even in the wake of despicable criminal acts, less freedom for us and more power for government does NOT MAKE ANYONE IN AMERICA SAFER.

Speaking these truths -- and mobilizing Americans who don’t want to let an ever-growing government take away more of their freedoms -- is the entire idea behind the Our America Initiative, of which I am the Honorary Chairman.

Today, it is the Second Amendment and our privacy.  Tomorrow, it will be greater government control of the Internet.  And in the weeks ahead, it will be critical decisions about the debt ceiling and whether Washington will finally have the guts to cut spending and face the reality of an unsustainable $16 Trillion debt.

My intent as the Honorary Chairman is to help the Our America Initiative defend our liberty and our economic freedom from the nonstop attacks by the government.  But we need your help as well.  Our planned campus tours, advertising, media appearances and events all require the financial support of friends and activists such as you.

We have worked very hard to put an organization in place that can have a very real impact on the public and policy debates of the day -- but not without your help.

I am more convinced than ever that America is ready to reject Big Government as the solution to all our problems, and return to the idea that a strong and prosperous America is one where freedom and liberty are valued and protected -- not taken away by the politicians.

I hope you will take a moment to go to www.OurAmericaInitative.com today and make a contribution that will help us give liberty a voice in the conversation as the politicians make decisions that will shape our futures for decades to come.  You have my personal assurance that your contribution will be used wisely and carefully to give voice to the principles and concerns we share.

Since the Our America Initiative is a non-partisan advocacy organization, contributions are not limited and can be accepted from not only individuals, but also corporations and other organizations.  Every dollar counts! Please contribute today at www.OurAmericaInitative.com, or send your check to the address below.

Dominican prostitute: Sen. Bob Menendez ‘likes the youngest and newest girls’

In a little-noticed email published online Wednesday by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a young Dominican woman wrote nine months ago that she slept with 59-year-old New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez at a series of sex parties organized by Dr. Salomon Melgen, a longtime Menendez campaign donor.

“That senator also likes the youngest and newest girls,” the woman wrote on April 21, 2002, according to an English translation provided to The Daily Caller by a native Spanish speaker.

“In the beginning he seemed so serious, because he never spoke to anyone, but he is just like the others and has just about the same tastes as the doctor, very refined. I think they were taking us more often to get us checked [medically] because of him…

Menendez admits frequent Dominican travel, reimburses FBI-raided donor $58,500 for private jet flights

Embattled Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez said through a spokesman Wednesday that trips he took on the private jet of a major political donor “have been paid for and reported appropriately.”

But that may not have been accurate until shortly before the statement went out to media: WNBC-TV4 in New York City reported Wednesday that Menendez recently wrote a $58,500 check to the jet’s owner, Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen.

“Senator Menendez has traveled on Dr. Melgen’s plane on three occasions, all of which have been paid for and reported appropriately,” the statement said.

Menendez’s chief of staff, Dan O’Brien, told NBC that it took the senator three years to pay his private airfare because of an office mistake.

“This was sloppy,” O’Brien conceded about two 2010 flights. “I’m chalking it up to an oversight…

Why Progressives Should Oppose Imperialist Interevention in Africa

Is French Operation in Mali a neocolonial intervention?

The conflict in Mali is continuing full bore, with the French military taking the lead both on the ground and in the air and seemingly pushing back Islamic rebels based in the northern part of the country. The rebels, associated primarily with Ansar Dine, had overrun a number of cities in the central part of the country, and for a time were menacing the Malian capital of Bamako.

On Jan. 22, two key cities,Diabaly and Doutenza, were taken by French and Malian troops after the rebels holding them retreated. For the time being, this has ended the threat of the fall of the Bamako government and shifted the fighting back towards the northern part of the country. The French air force has been launching numerous airstrikes in northern Mali, including in the ancient city of Timbuktu, in an attempt to weaken the strongholds of the rebel forces.

The proposed “Africanization” of the conflict has yet to happen as troops from the Economic Community of West African States and other African states have as yet only trickled into Mali. At a recent emergency summit in the Ivory Coast, ECOWAS leaders called on the “international community” to provide financial support for their African military mission in Mali, which is slated to take over most ground operations from the French.

With many towns being taken without a fight, it is unclear if the rebel strategy is to retreat to strong points or launch a guerilla-style conflict. Ominously, human rights organizations have reported that Tuaregs and ethnic Arab civilians have been targeted by Malian security forces in a number of brutal attacks and killings…

Ann Coulter: Marco Rubio’s Amnesty a Path to Oblivion for the GOP

Apart from finding out that Barack Obama did far worse in his re-election than nearly any other incumbent who won re-election, the only thing that perked me up after Nov. 6 was coming across a Time magazine published after the 2004 election, when George W. Bush won a second term.

In the mirror image of all the 2012 post-election analyses, the Democrats were said to be finished, out of ideas, hopelessly unpopular. It's like watching MSNBC, with the word "Democrats" replaced with "Republicans."

Democrats had thrown everything they had into beating Bush, crushing the Howard Dean wing of their party and running a moderate -- a Vietnam veteran, no less! They had George Soros, Michael Moore and Code Pink working like fiends to topple Bush.

Still, they lost to an incumbent. As Time noted, the Democrats had "lost five of the past seven presidential elections."

But the pendulum swings. The Democrats came roaring back in 2006 and again in 2008. There's no reason Republicans can't do the same, unburdened by having to run against an incumbent in 2016.

Unless Marco Rubio has his way.

The Democrats never change their ideas; they change the voters. For decades, Democrats have been…

Al Qaeda Controlling Eastern Libya

Libya: Comment: On the 26th, Milan's Corriere della Sera published an article by an Italian journalist describing conditions in Libya, with special focus on eastern Libya, the region around Benghazi. Excerpts follow.

He wrote that Westerners are leaving eastern Libya. Businessmen, diplomats, and representatives of humanitarian organizations are leaving, along with the technicians who work in the oil industry.

"Rome considers that the Libyan authorities are currently 'incapable of ensuring effective control over the territory' against the Islamic fundamentalist threat. Thus 'travel in eastern, central, and southern Libya is absolutely discouraged unless motivated by stringent professional requirements which cannot opportunely be postponed.'"

Benghazi "is riven by feuding. The security forces are nowhere to be seen. The central government does not exist. The secessionist movement is growing. Garbage is rotting in the streets, and crime and the kidnapping industry are spreading...."

"Darnah, the coastal city nestling at the foot of the 'green mountains' …is now seen as an independent al-Qa'ida republic...."

" 'Al-Qa'ida's road blocks now control the roads in Darnah. They may comprise over 1,000 armed men. Their militia groups are spreading to the villages and they are occupying other cities such as Bayda in an attempt to reach Benghazi,' Libyan intelligence sources told us. The next deadline is…

Peter Schiff: The Fed's Ivory Tower Just Got Smaller

Today's weaker than expected GDP report shows just how out of touch most professional economists remain with respect to the fundamental weakness of the US economy. After more than four years of nearly never ending monetary stimulus and more than $5 trillion worth of new federal debt, the economy remains stuck in a serious recession.

The report shows that federal stimulus and deficit spending can't create sustainable economic growth.

Although the tepid data shocked many economists, I was not surprised. I believe zero growth is consistent with the state of the real economy. The stronger growth numbers that we saw in the second half of 2012 were likely inflated due to pre-election hopes.

The disappointing economic data takes on an even gloomier tone when considered against factors that will make recovery that much more difficult. Interest rates are making their first strong upward move in nine months. Yields on 10 year Treasury bonds are up 60 basis points since the end of July, and are over 2.00% for the first time since April 2012.

The dollar is falling against most currencies except the Japanese yen (it is down more than 11% against the Euro since July), and energy prices are rising (crude oil is approaching $100 per barrel). Although these conditions are not promising, the stock market seems blissfully out of touch. As of yesterday, the S&P 500..

Bob Barr: Gun Control Takes Center Stage

The race to further the gun-control agenda in the wake of last month’s tragic shooting by a crazed gunman in Newtown, Connecticut is moving into high gear. The Grand Old Lady of Gun Control, California Senator Diane Feinstein, last week introduced a bill that not only seeks to reinstate the 1994 “Federal Assault Weapons Ban” (AWB), but goes far beyond the scope of the earlier law (which expired a decade later) in undermining Second Amendment protections for law abiding Americans.

Feinstein’s proposal specifically targets 157 modern sporting rifles -- or, as she almost gleefully refers to them, “assault weapons.” In addition to these firearms, the California liberal’s bill prohibits the sale, transfer, manufacture and importing of semi-automatic rifles and pistols able to accept detachable magazines, and which have at least one cosmetic “military” characteristic (the “Clinton Gun Ban” only banned those types of rifles with at least two such characteristics). The bill goes on to outlaw magazines with capacities greater than 10-rounds, and bans the sale or transfer of larger, grandfathered magazines.

Don’t even think about trying to get a semi-automatic shotgun with a rocket launcher attached; Feinstein specifically listed those as well.

By now, Americans should realize that…

War Is Like Rust

War seems to come out of nowhere, like rust that suddenly pops up on iron after a storm.

Throughout history, we have seen that war can sometimes be avoided or postponed, or its effects mitigated -- usually through a balance of power, alliances and deterrence rather than supranational collective agencies. But it never seems to go away entirely.

Just as otherwise lawful suburbanites might slug it out over silly driveway boundaries, or trivial road rage can escalate into shooting violence, so nations and factions can whip themselves up to go to war -- consider 1861, 1914 or 1939. Often, the pretexts for starting a war are not real shortages of land, food or fuel, but rather perceptions -- like fear, honor and perceived self-interest.

To the ancient Greek philosophers Heraclitus and Plato, war was the father of us all, while peace was a brief parenthesis in the human experience. In the past, Americans of both parties seemed to accept that tragic fact.

After the Second World War, the United States, at great expense in blood and treasure, and often at existential danger, took on the role of protecting the free world from global communism. After the collapse of…

Southern Heritage 4-1-1: Report on 10 Year Anniversary of Historic March

An Open Letter & Open Report As Requested by Father Alister Anderson
Dear Ms. Lunelle,

When in my estimation one of the top ten greatest men to ever walk the Almighty Gods earth sends of you a request , there are no excuses to not comply, and Father Alister Anderson has asked of me a report on the March commemorating the 10 Year Anniversary of the Historic March Across Dixie.
( 1 ) It is in the Capitol Building in Montgomery, Alabama where Terry Lee and I have unfinished business with the State of Alabama, and have not had time to forge a document expressing those concerns of business first to the Honorable Jay Hinton.our gracious Host. There are historical depictions and visual presentations of events that took place in Alabama, and most prevalent the Marches of King. One of the most beautiful Confederate soldiers monument stands on its grounds. The Southern Cross sits in a place of prominence on the House Chamber floor. A star encased in marble marks the place and date of the Honorable President Davis 1st Inaugural Address. Yet there was no display to be found of any of those venues, or of those Black folks who earned a place of honor under the Southern Cross.
Terry Lee, Jay and I sat through a Presentation in the State Museum adjacent to the Capitol Building where noted author Ben Severance gave a visual and oral presentation about his Photo Journal that supposedly gave a photographic history of Alabama showing the human side of the country's greatest conflict. Yet he only depicted three re-construction Blacks in his book, and only talked about one favorably. And in his presentation one he mentioned as having an election stolen from him by the local White Sheriff because he stole the ballot box, and had himself elected. And this was suppose to be a funny joke that was laughed at by many present. Never is there any mention of Jim Jeb who fought alongside his master at Manassas, or Horace King or a picture of him and one of the Wonders of the world he built next door in the Capitol; their spiral stair case, or the bridges and roads he built for General Lees' army.Never any picture of Holt Collier who rode with Forrest, or mention of his love and devotion to his former master, typical of the many Africans freed or indentured as a form of reciprocation for the love shown to them.
However, there we were with Terry Lee's documentation of the Cold War Between the States that showed a side that perhaps Ben Severance for whatever reason thought not important to portrait in his works. We had journeyed some twenty miles a day, six days a week, interacting with the sons of former slaves, the sons of former slave owners, and some that were not, just Southern, and just like their ancestors, some Northerners that were sympathetic to the Southern Cause. We heard their stories, we read the most sacred mail of their ancestors, the rarest of documents, and books ever written, and we broke bread at the table of Brotherhood every day and learned first hand about the love that they talked of between a man called master and friend, A love that was shattered by the trickery of a man who played the biggest trick on them when he broke the rules of the document forged to guide them in this land. And now still with malice of intent continue to use the African people against them with deceit and lies to break their spirits . And again here we were with all the proof that our Southern family needed in the documentation of Terry Lee in his Photo Journal and visual documentation to put an end to a tale told so mean. An end that America so badly needs as it projects itself as the champion purveyor of human rights on the global stage, another lie told until the assault on the South and its people come to an end.
( 2 ) The March Across Dixie is wherever I am as we fight an onslaught of attacks on our heritage and the symbols of those who would dare circumvent the people as a King had done before. We desperately need funds to fight in this war we wage as those who oppose us have far superior resources akin to those our ancestors faced in another day. We could not have asked the Almighty God for a better time and battle ground to forge a victory for America as it faces again the very issues faced by President Davis the day he gave his farewell speech to Congress.  I hope that we get enough sponsors to propel us on towards Texas. I expect to post my Flag on the Capitol grounds before May. God bless you.

                                                                                                         Your brother,

                                                                                                                 HK Edgerton

What You Need to Know About Immigration Reform

Yesterday, President Obama traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he outlined a four part plan to create a fair and effective immigration system that lives up to our heritage -- both as a nation of laws and as a nation of immigrants.

FBI raids Florida eye clinic of donor linked to Sen. Bob Menendez’s prostitution scandal

FBI agents have raided the West Palm Beach, Fla. eye clinic owned by Dr. Salomon Melgen, the wealthy donor to New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez who allegedly procured prostitutes for him — some of them as young as 16 — during trips to the Dominican Republic.

The Miami Herald reported that federal agents lined up vans outside the Melgen Eye Center late Tuesday night to haul away evidence in the case.

A woman answering the phone at Melgen’s home in West Palm Beach would not give her name but said, “Dr. Melgen is asleep.” Asked if he was aware his clinic was being raided by federal law enforcement, she replied, “Oh yes, well, these things happen all the time. They’ve got to do their job.” She declined to comment on Melgen’s relationship with Sen. Menendez.

Melgen, 58, is believed to have flown Menendez in his private jet to the Dominican Republic on several occasions for alcohol-fueled sex parties featuring prostitutes…

John Stossel: Obama Is Not King

Watching President Obama's inaugural, I was confused. It looked like a new king was being crowned. Thousands cheered, like subjects worshipping nobility. At a time when America faces unsustainable debt and terrible economic troubles, why such pomp?
Maybe it's because so many people tell themselves presidents can solve any problem, like fairy-tale kings -- or gods.
Before America's first inauguration, John Adams suggested George Washington be called "His Most Benign Highness." Fortunately, Congress insisted on the more modest title, "President."
At his inaugural, President Obama himself said, "The patriots of 1776 did not fight to replace the tyranny of a king with the privileges of a few."
But then Obama went on to say that his privileged few should force the rest of us to do a zillion things.
He said, "We must do these things, together." But what "together" means to big-government folks is that they have a vision -- and all of us, together, must go deeper into debt to pay for their vision, even if we disagree.
We can afford this, as the president apparently told John Boehner, because America does not have a spending problem.
But, of course, we do have a spending problem, and a debt problem, and the president knows this.
Just a few years ago, when George W. Bush was president, the Congressional Record shows that Senator Obama said this: "I rise, today, to talk about America's debt problem. The fact that we are here to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure and our government's reckless fiscal policies."
Right!

Susan Brown: All the President’s Women

At least Romney had binders. Binders full of qualified women to fill cabinet positions, that is. Democrats mercilessly pounded Romney for the binders comment he made during the 2012 presidential campaign, but I'll bet the Obama campaign now wishes Romney had passed the binders on to Obama since it seems he's having a hard time picking women to fill his second term cabinet positions.

The recently released official White House photo of a predominately pale-faced and testosterone-filled cabinet (which I have no problem with) is enough to cause any misinformed voter into wondering what has become of the so-called party of women.

To be fair, women fill about half the White House staff positions, but the highest- level cabinet positions are currently extremely male and predominantly white. This seems a bit odd, considering the media narrative over the past 50 years has painted Republicans as the party of rich white men. But that's not the case, if you look at the actual highest-level cabinet positions women were appointed to since Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR)…

Rand Paul to outline ‘constitutional conservative’ foreign policy of peace

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul will deliver a wide-ranging foreign policy address at the Heritage Foundation next Wednesday, marking the tea party lawmaker’s latest foray into international affairs.

“At this lecture, Senator Rand Paul will discuss his vision of a foreign policy that respects the plain language of our Constitution, the legal powers of Congress and the important role of a strong presidency,” the invitation says. “It will stress the need for maintaining the strongest national defense among nations while also questioning what constitutes actual ‘defense.’”

Paul acknowledges the United States “presently faces national security challenges from hostile nations throughout the world,” but argues that “overextending our military forces by engaging in prolonged conflict throughout the Middle East and around the globe has not been an effective foreign policy. ”

“Sen. Paul will ask what qualifies as America’s genuine national interest,” according to the invitation. “He will also ask what aspects of our current policies do not.”

Paul recently returned from a trip to…

Pat Buchanan: America's Role in a Darkening Age

When, in the 1950s, Nikita Khrushchev said, "We will bury you," and, "Your children will live under communism," Eisenhower's America scoffed.

By 1980, however, the tide did indeed seem to be with the East.

America had suffered a decade of defeats. Southeast Asia had fallen. The ayatollah had seized power in Iran. Moscow had occupied Afghanistan. Cuban troops were in Ethiopia and Angola. Grenada and Nicaragua had fallen to the Soviet bloc. Eurocommunism was all the rage on the continent.

Just a decade later, the world turned upside-down.

The Berlin Wall fell. Eastern Europe was suddenly free. The Soviet Union disintegrated. China abandoned Maoism for state capitalism.

Now, 20 years on, the wheel has turned again -- toward darkness. No longer do we hear chatter about "The End of History" and triumph of democratic capitalism, of America imposing her "global hegemony" or leading mankind into "a second American century."

The hubris is gone, and triumphalism has given way to anxiety, apprehension, alarm.

In an essay, "The Return of Toxic Nationalism," Robert Kaplan, a geopolitical analyst for Stratfor, writes that Western elites are even yet failing to see the larger, darker picture of our evolving world.

These elites identify with the…

25 Great Quotes from Black Conservatives

25) "A woman who demands further gun control legislation is like a chicken who roots for Colonel Sanders." -- Larry Elder

24) "I’ve been to dozens of Tea Party rallies. I’ve given at least a half a dozen or more speeches. I have not yet to find the first racist comment or the first person who approaches me from a racist perspective. I will speak very clearly here. Racism is a part of a lot of things in our country. Good people are the predominant fact of our country. I simply don’t get it. There are good people and bad people in all organizations fundamentally; however, when you look at the basis of the Tea Party it has nothing to do with race. It has to do with an economic recovery. It has to do with limiting the role of our government in our lives. It has to do with free markets. How do you fight that? The only way you fight that is to create an emotional distraction called racism. It doesn’t have to be real. It can be rhetoric but it gets the media focusing on something other than the truth of why the Tea Party is resonating so well with the average person." -- Tim Scott

23) "Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot." -- Clarence Thomas

22) "They say African Americans. I say black people. I’ve only been to Africa once. I’ve been in America all my life!" -- Herman Cain

21) "As the old saying goes, 'money is power' and the more money the government takes, the more power it has over individuals." -- Angela McGlowan

Line in the Sand on Gun Rights

Dear friend of liberty,

As Americans' tears fell and our blood boiled as we watched the smoke billowing from the sites of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, few Americans could have foreseen the national security state Leviathan we live under today

But ever since that fateful morning, the statists, using fear and mass hysteria, have pulled every trick in the book to expand government power and GUT many of our most sacred constitutional freedoms.

Now - after the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut - establishment members of BOTH parties believe the timing is right to finally gut our Second Amendment freedoms, as well.

And should they succeed, you and I can only guess what will happen next.

C4L has created a special Liberty Protection Directive I'm counting on you to sign IMMEDIATELY to make your voice heard on this critical issue

This fight is going to happen fast. The statists are determined to strike while anti-gun hysteria across the U.S. is at full-blast.

The Liberty Protection Directive makes it clear you're drawing a line in the sand.

No more assaults on our gun rights. No more assaults on our civil liberties

No more standing by silently while the statists build up their prison walls all around us with outrageous schemes, including:

***Unmanned, armed drones flying overhead to spy on us

***Department of Homeland Security-approved "Fusion Centers" issuing warnings about people who might have the "wrong" presidential candidate's bumper sticker on their car;

***Mandatory groping and naked body scans just to board an airplane

***Warrantless wiretapping and snooping, enabling nameless, faceless bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. to listen to our phone calls and read our emails;

***Looking the other way while the President claims authority to assassinate American citizens on a whim

***The NDAA's "indefinite detention" provision allowing our federal government to lock us up FOREVER without so much as a trial.

Of course, they tell you and me they're demolishing our constitutional liberties "for our own good."

They tell us we're so utterly powerless to protect ourselves against anything, we simply must depend on government overlords - who truly know what's best for all of us - to ensure our safety.

And now they're making the same laughable argument about our gun rights

Studies show countries with high rates of civilian firearms ownership are the safest.

Countries where only those in power are armed - supposedly for the civilian population's "protection" - are cesspools of violence!

This should be no surprise.

The Founders included the Second Amendment in the U.S. Constitution as a bulwark against tyranny - as a check against evil men wielding the sword of government to bloody the American people into submission.

But now the Big Government crowd is going all-out to gut it.

There's no doubt - President Obama's anti-gun blueprint will serve as the basis for the statists' assault on our gun rights.

His outrageous desires to infringe on our liberties include the Feinstein Gun Ban - outlawing firearms that look "scary" - and a ban on magazines holding more than ten rounds.

But by far the worst is a thinly veiled national gun registration scheme hidden under the guise of mandatory background checks.

After all, you and I both know registration is the first step toward outright confiscation

The establishment will do anything to ram these and other schemes through Congress, so there's no telling where this fight is headed.

And should they succeed on this issue, you and I are likely to see a mad rush of dozens of other outrageous plans designed to shred what remains of our constitutional liberties.

That's why it's critical you sign your Liberty Protection Directive to C4L IMMEDIATELY

Your Liberty Protection Directive is a key part of the plan Campaign for Liberty President John Tate and I have put together to help fight back against the new attacks on our gun rights coming from Congress.

During my time in Congress, I did everything I could to stop radical assaults on our civil liberties and our Second Amendment rights

And I have no intention of letting up on that fight now.

I've instructed C4L staff to pull out all the stops - including email, mail, op-eds, and blogs.

This type of program won't be cheap. But my hope is C4L will be able to raise the resources needed to fund hard-hitting radio, newspaper, Internet, and TV ads, as well.

Of course, none of this can happen without your help, so please agree to act today.

Seeing the statists' frantic rush to increase government power and further restrict our freedoms, I have to wonder if our gun rights are the last thread holding our republic together.

What might they do once they have nothing but disarmed victims in their sights?

World history brings to mind some horrific possibilities.

And I, for one, do not want to see that kind of madness happen here

Instead, I want to do everything I can to guarantee ALL of our constitutional freedoms are protected - including our Second Amendment rights.

If you agree, please sign your Liberty Protection Directive today, and make your most generous contribution of $75

If that's too much, please agree to your most generous contribution of $50 or even $25.

As I mentioned, there's no time to waste.

So please sign your Liberty Protection Directive to C4L IMMEDIATELY, and consider making a generous contribution of $75, $50, or $25

For Liberty,

Dr. Ron Paul
Chairman

P.S. Using fear and mass hysteria, the statists have pulled every trick in the book to GUT some of our most sacred constitutional freedoms - and now they're targeting our gun rights.

You and I must fight back.

That's why it's vital you sign your Liberty Protection Directive to C4L IMMEDIATELY, and if at all possible, make your most generous contribution of $75, $50, or $25

SEN. RAND PAUL CUTS $500K FROM HIS OFFICE BUDGET, RETURNS IT TO TREASURY

By Becket Adams

When freshman Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was elected in 2010, he promised to cut federal spending.

It looks like he’s making good on his promise.

“The Kentucky Republican and tea-party favorite said Thursday he’s returning $500,000 to the U.S. Treasury – money from his operating budget that his office never spent,” writes Scott Wong of Politico, and “he contends no senator has returned as much to taxpayers.”

How does he do it? Some would say frugality.

“We look at all of our office expenses. We look at the coffee pot to the computers bought and we try to buy things as if it were our money we were spending, or your money that we were spending, and our goal is not to spend all of it, our goal is to save some of it,” Paul said.

If Congress offered incentives for lawmakers and staff to cut budgets, the U.S. could save $130 million annually, Paul added.

“I ran to stop the reckless spending. And I ran to end the damaging process of elected officials acting as errand boys, competing to see who could bring back the biggest check and the most amount of pork,” Paul said at a news conference in Louisville, where he presented taxpayers with a massive mock check for $500,000…

ABC, FBI, Menendez camp tight-lipped about senator’s brewing underage prostitution scandal

Days after documents surfaced that suggested New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez paid for sexual favors in the Dominican Republic — including some from girls as young as 16 — few in Washington are offering new clues about what appears to be an ongoing federal investigation.

The documents included emails between FBI Special Agent Regino Chavez and a Dominican source. In one email, Chavez told the source that “we have been able to confirm most of” the information he had provided about Menendez and the prostitutes. “We know that you are providing accurate information.”

But the FBI had no comment for Fox News on Saturday.

ABC News chief global affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz, who had Menendez on a nationally televised hot seat Sunday morning, failed to ask him about the accusations. A yes-or-no question

Former GOP Congressman advocates market-based climate change solutions

WASHINGTON — A former congressman says he has the solution to the world’s carbon emissions problem. And he’s a Republican.

With climate change back on lawmakers’ radar after President Barack Obama’s second inaugural address, former Rep. Bob Inglis is one of the few in his party willing to speak out on the issue. A victim of the tea party’s wrath in 2010, Inglis represented one of South Carolina’s most conservative districts for 12 years. Now he believes proposing a conservative answer to climate change could help the GOP rebound politically.

After he was voted out of office, Inglis established the Energy and Enterprise Initiative at George Mason University. Its plan is simple: end tax breaks for all fuels, tax carbon pollution and cut taxes elsewhere to ensure that the government collects no more revenue than it would otherwise receive.

LP: Help end "gun-free" school zone laws by contributing today to our radio ad campaign!

Dear Libertarian,

Fellow Freedom Fighters,

The Libertarian Party believes real safety is much more valuable than the illusion of safety. Thus, while the president, Congress, and state legislatures have been trying to pass gun bans that leave victims disarmed against criminal violence, the Libertarian Party has been pushing to repeal the tragically failed "gun-free" school zone laws.

We have already aired more than 150 radio spots nationwide with the following ad:

This radio ad was recorded by radio broadcaster Dusty Rhoads, who volunteered his time and skill to fight for freedom. And all spots were paid for by targeted donations — not one penny was taken out of the general fund.
Because we purchase spots using competitive bidding, we pay the lowest rates possible. In fact, our average cost per spot is around $5! In other words, a $5 donation can be enough to get a radio ad!

We have a rare opportunity here. We can make America freer by repealing the tragically failed "gun-free" school zone laws. By going on the offensive, we also have a better chance of preventing more executive orders and legislative restrictions. Imagine if freedom fighters in 1912 had run an End the Fed campaign. Or a campaign to end marijuana prohibition in 1937.

Please donate whatever you can at www.lp.org/contribute, and write "For Radio Ad" in the comments section. Any money you donate will all be used to buy air time at maximally discounted rates — no commission, no overhead.

In Liberty,

Geoffrey Neale
Chair, National Libertarian Party

P.S. Please donate now to expand our radio campaign — and remember to write "For Radio Ad" in the comments section!

Judge Andrew Napolitano: Guns and the President

Here is an uncomfortable pop quiz: Who has killed more children, Adam Lanza or Barack Obama? We'll hold off on the answer for a few paragraphs while we look at the state of governmental excess -- including killing -- in America. But you can probably guess the correct answer from the manner in which I have posed the question.
We all know that the sheet anchor of our liberties is the Declaration of Independence. The president himself quoted Thomas Jefferson's most famous line in his inaugural address earlier this week. He recognized that all men and women are created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights and that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The president would no doubt like to modify the word "created" to read "shall be maintained," since his presidency seems dedicated to keeping us equal, not in terms of equality of rights and opportunity but of outcome. He has dedicated himself to using the coercive power of the federal government to take from those who have and give to those who don't. Under the Constitution, charity is a decision for individuals to make, not the government.
This forced egalitarianism was never the purpose of government in America. When the people in the...
