"It looks like Jerry Brown's position on bailouts is pretty clear - he's about to get one from an apparently very concerned Democratic Governors Association back in Washington, " said California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring. "It looks like the 'I'll declare my candidacy when I get around to it' approach is not earning much support back east."
The San Francisco Chronicle today reports that "the DGA effort comes because party insiders tell us that California Democrats are increasingly focused, and worried..."
Nationally, the picture for Democrats continues to deteriorate as political trends shift in favor of Republicans. The number of Americans identifying as Republicans continues to rise, Republicans continue to lead in generic ballot tests, and the President's approval rating - a key predictor of the President's party's mid-term election performance - remains in the tank.
Additionally, the Chronicle reports, "With just five months away from the June 8 primary, and a year until the next governor takes office, there's growing concern about pumping up Brown's effort, which to date has been an extremely low key affair."
"Given just how many of California's problems can be directly traced back to Jerry Brown's failed two terms as governor - our inadequate transportation, water, and power infrastructure for starters - we can see why he's avoiding getting a campaign started where he'll have to explain all the failings of the last time he was let in the Governor's office," added Chairman Nehring.
