DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement on GOP Presidential Debate in Nevada

By DNC Press

Following the Republican presidential debate held in Las Vegas, Nevada, tonight, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement:

“Tonight we saw yet another debate with no plans put forward to create jobs and help middle-class families get ahead. What we did hear, in between the constant bickering and interruptions of one another, were more plans to help millionaires, billionaires, and large corporations at the expense of middle-class Americans.

“Not surprisingly, we saw more flip-flops, inconsistencies, and out-of-touch policies from Mitt Romney. When Romney was challenged on health care, he said again that he never supported a plan like his for the national stage, even though he did on several occasions. We saw Rick Perry and Mitt Romney vying to out-right-wing each other by trying to take a hard line on immigration.

“Worst of all, Mitt Romney doubled down on his comments yesterday that struggling homeowners—including Nevadans and homeowners in my home state of Florida—are on their own. Romney’s proposal treats the homes of honest, hard-working Americans like nothing more than Monopoly pieces that bankers can use to get rich—it is callous and appalling.

“Tonight the true colors of the GOP field were alive and well for the American people to see: far right-wing prescriptions for our economy that have failed in the past, that would harm the middle class, and that would put millionaires and billionaires first while leaving everyone else behind. This simply is not what the American people want.”
