Reader Submission: Ron Paul and the Liberty Movement

I like your video, and was relieved that the "Plan B" wasn't seeing how Rand could change Romney. I see people discouraged and giving up, people jumping on board the GOP, or pledging their August/November support of Ron Paul as if their last hope. Losing a solid leader is not a bump in the road, nor is it the end, but somewhere in-between. Being too optimistic or pessimistic about a rebound can be damaging. However Ron Paul has been speaking for 30 years, and only recently have people began to listen. Freedom is alive and the people are hungry for it.

Here are my thoughts on the situation, specifically why I believe we should be cautious who gets handed the torch next, and possible warning signs already flaring. I am curious of your thoughts, especially coming from someone balanced and practical about the situation.

I think that Rand Paul was a total mistake. Most people become corrupt with power, and he was handed his father's legacy, his supporters, Campaign for Liberty, and so on without earning it. Maybe he earned the Senate, but that's I'm talking about. It's the goodie-bag that's the problem, and here's why....

Think: if a man build a business for 40 years, and the last 5 of that it exploded in growth. His son, who never had much interest in it, was corseted into taking it over CEO straight to the top.. Is he really going to respect it? He's not, and even with good intentions, this never works out.

Campaign for Liberty appears compromised. Tom Woods, former CFL head, is asking Ron Paul to make a complete sweep of this organization. The agenda is turning from Liberty to globalist, and there are suggestions of supporter lists being fished. I find it disturbing that they are meeting at the Whitfield Marriott in Chantilly VA this September, where Bilderberg just attended....

Now to this strategy Rand is supposedly taking about...

What I learned at CFL in 2009, the old CFL, was that only 3-6% of the population votes in national elections without a blind dedication to R or D's. When Ralph Nader was asked if he regretted costing Gore the election in 2000, he said, "No. Now the Democrats will pay attention to our positions". We were instructed that the only way to control the Republican Party was by costing them an election in the event that a constitutionalist was not elected.

"If you are not politically feared, you will not be politically respected." We were given the example of the "Christian Right,” which basically only cares about the pro-life, and they will vote R no matter the issues, the candidate, or their history (even in reelection). So Bush waits 3 years to pass a partial birth abortion ban, throwing only one bone, and the pro-life movement loves him to this day. Would you wait 3 years to ban that?

With this Liberty movement is on fire, we are told to copy the Christian Right? We'll be another politically disrespected subset, just vote R, as if the 2007-2012 Ron Paul Revolution never happened.

This we cannot allow to happen, no matter what Rand Paul, Jesse Benton, or Jack Hunter tell us is the next move.

Any Conservatives After Santorum?

An open letter to the Conservative Party of America, April 2012. The Conservative Party had enthusiastically backed Rick Santorum for the Republican Nomination.

Honorable Chairman,

I certainly understand the major disappointment you must be feeling that your preferred candidate--the one who most closely embodies your beliefs and your values, and everything you think a leader should be--has left the race for the GOP Presidential nomination.

However I must urge you not to fully lose faith.  We still have one true conservative left in this Presidential race.  I understand that you perhaps identify yourself as farther to the right than the facade that passes for the Republican Party these days, and I frankly agree with your reasoning.  Nonetheless I must urge you to reconsider supporting Ron Paul for the nomination.

BEFORE you close this email you must be able to reason that Paul, with his unflinching Constitutionalism and uncompromising pro-life stance (he REFUSED to perform any abortions as an OB-GYN), is a more suitable candidate than the Romney--the out-of-touch, self-described "progressive Republican," flip-flopping architect of ObamaCare--and Gingrich--the serial adulterer, the man who co-wrote global warming legislation with Nancy Pelosi, and the man who flip-flopped on abortion.

As a follower of Jesus Christ and an unapologetic patriot, I have full confidence in Ron Paul's leadership ability as a true Christian in the White House.  Keep in mind that the main (and often only) reason why conservatives, who love Paul's very conservative economic and domestic policy, oppose Paul is his non-interventionist foreign policy.  However, consider this: do you honestly expect all those Republicans in Congress (with Christian constituencies) to stand idly by and let Israel be attacked?  Nonsense!  Ron Paul is a strict Constitutionalist, therefore if the Congress passed a resolution or even declaration of war, President Paul would be Constitutionally obligated to honor it.

I urge you to consider approaching Ron Paul through the framework of the 'Conservative Unity Slate' whereupon Santorum supporters are banding together with Paul supporters at the grass roots level in order to form a united conservative pro-America front to oppose the liberals Obama and Romney (or as I like to call them, Coke and Diet Coke).

First and foremost, let us agree with the wisdom of Ronald Reagan when he said "I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism."  Yes, that was Ronald Reagan, who also said “Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country.”

And most importantly, with all the youth and independent votes, Ron Paul truly has a strong chance to beat Obama!

Mr. Chairman, I certainly pray that you will inquire into the above sources I’ve provided, for there is so much at stake, and can we really risk not knowing if the future of the country is in this man’s hands?  Thank you for considering my thoughts on these matters.  I like to think that while the Minutemen had the brutal task of fighting their revolution on the battlefield, we have the privilege of fighting a peaceful revolution at the ballot box.  God be with you.

“Party leaders, like the leader of any club, love to have your dues, or your vote in this case, but they really don’t want you hanging around voting for the offices or the leadership,” Mr. Keene said. “[Evangelicals] came in, they were attracted by Pat Robertson, who couldn’t get nominated, but attracted hundreds of thousands of millions of people. Some of those people went home because they were just attracted to him, as will some of the Paul people, and some of them stuck around, and today a lot of them are leaders in the party…”
 
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, his son, appeared at the event on his father’s behalf and told The Washington Times that he has noticed the other GOP candidates have started being “friendlier to my father.”

Ron Paul Issues Statement on Obama Contraception Decision

“I am the only GOP presidential candidate who has consistently opposed the federal promotion, funding, and mandating of contraception and abortion”

 

LAKE JACKSON, Texas– Congressman and 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul issued the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s announcement that religious organizations must pay for contraception and sterilization under the national health care law:

 

“Forcing private religious institutions to pay for contraception and sterilization as part of their health care plans is a direct assault on the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty.  On my first day as President, I will reverse this policy. Repealing the unconstitutional monstrosity known as ObamaCare is a major part of my Plan to Restore America.

 

“I am the only GOP presidential candidate who has consistently opposed the federal promotion, funding, and mandating of contraception and abortion.  Unlike Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, I never voted to provide taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood.  And unlike Mitt Romney, whose Massachusetts health care plan contained a contraceptive mandate similar to the one contained in ObamaCare, I have never supported any government health care mandates.

This is a very special day in the United States, and I hope the traditions we celebrate here today will soon spread throughout the world.  The very first Thanksgiving in North America was a day when two clashing civilizations were able to set aside their differences as one helped the other not to starve, and they sat together as brothers and gave thanks to the Almighty.

 

Today, I have many reasons to give thanks to God, though Thanksgiving Day is by no means the only day I’m truly thankful.  I have a strong faith in God, a wonderful family, loyal friends, a comfortable job, and even further, I’ve been given the privilege of I living free in an exceptional Constitutional republic, of serving my state and country as a reservist, and to attend an excellent university.  I see the Almighty working in the world every day, guiding us all to make improvements in our lives and the way we get along with others.

 

I’m also incredibly thankful and fortunate for everyone reading this message.  It’s the readers of the Political Spectrum as well as the other Political Spectrum Publishing blogs that make this venture so worth it!  Every day hundreds of people stop by to get the latest news and commentary on the political and economic arenas, and among all the mainstream media and junk media available, I’m glad that those readers came here.  Thank you all!

Because of the fact that the original thanks givers were able to set their differences aside like adults, despite radically differing faiths, cultures, languages, and systems of ethics, I have hope for the future of mankind.  I have hope that the Palestinian will soon be able to sit and dine with the Israeli, that the Shi’ite will be able to sit with the Sunni, the North Korean with the South Korean, the Christian with the Muslim, that angry and estranged brothers in the United States will forgive and embrace each other again, and that Almighty God will warm the hearts of human beings through knowledge and understanding.

Constitution Party 2008 Presidential Candidate

Last Saturday, Texas Governor Rick Perry unofficially launched his 2012 Presidential candidacy in Houston (in my opinion). Speculation is he will officially announce his intentions this weekend in South Carolina. If he does declare his candidacy, many election-watchers say Perry will become the GOP frontrunner, due to an extremely weak field of declared candidates. If Perry does declare his candidacy, everyone will know that the Houston event was staged for the purpose of launching his Presidential bid, rhetoric to the contrary notwithstanding.

If Perry declares his candidacy (and I’m confident he will), people should also realize that the Houston event was a precursor to the type of campaign that Perry will use throughout the Republican primary season. As a fellow Texan, it was not lost on Rick Perry how George W. Bush obtained the Republican nomination--and eventually the White House. In short, Rick Perry is going to use the G.W. Bush model to win a Presidential election.

Think about it: G.W. Bush won the White House after an extremely unpopular liberal Democrat had been President. Barack Obama’s popularity is even lower than Bill Clinton’s was--and Clinton was only the second President in US history to ever be impeached! Bush’s campaign boss, Karl Rove, brilliantly painted G.W. Bush as being a wholesome "born again Christian," which played very well with a Christian electorate that was tired of being embarrassed by a lying, philandering reprobate living in the White House.

The Right: Why Do They Attack Ron Paul?

Why is it that people from across the political spectrum so passionately seek to vilify Ron Paul?  Ronald Reagan—blindly loved as an icon by conservatives and ultraconservative the way Lenin is loved by ultra-leftists—has become somewhat of a guiding light for modern Republicans, who use his tenures as Governor and President, his speeches, and his writings as their beacon for forming policy.  President Reagan clearly appreciated Ron Paul’s contributions to the House of Representatives as well as his contributions to public policy.

Congressman Paul represents the basic pillars of conservatism: the practice of religion unhindered by government, family ties and the role of families in society, strong national defense, lower taxes, property rights, and sound money.  Furthermore, Congressman Paul’s voting record in Congress shows he is consistent in voting according to his values for which his constituency elected him.

One reason many conservatives distrust him and ultraconservatives openly hate him is his opposition to a global empire established through military force, coupled with his opposition to getting entangled in foreign affairs and especially foreign alliances.  He would see a quick end to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and an immediate end to the bombing campaigns in the Libyan Civil War and Yemeni Uprising (two undeclared wars which the GOP is smashing President Obama[1]).  What the ultraconservatives translate this into is an idea that he is completely against Israel.[2]  In reality, he isn’t against Israel, he is simply against giving huge amounts of aid and advice to a country that is often at war.  He has no double standards and would apply this principle to every other country the United States has dealings with.

But why is this such a bad thing?  If trillions of dollars were not being squandered as “gifts” for foreign assistance[3] (to countries most likely unable to properly manage that aid money or put it to good use), then the trillions or hundreds of billions could stay at home and substitute for the high taxes Americans are burdened with.  In regards to Israel, he knows that many militants who hate Israel also hate this country, as they perceive Israel to be a puppet state and the United States to be the puppet master.  This is a far cry from the truth, but it’s not completely irrational, since Israel goes out of its way to consult with the Executive Branch on many of its internal matters, especially in regards to dealing with terrorism from Hamas, Hezbollah, and the PLO, and even asks for monetary aid.[4]  Ron Paul knows that in order for Israel to be a free country, its population needs to be free to run its own country without “getting permission.”  Though he is sympathetic to the political plight of the Palestinians in having their own State, he knows that it’s not the U.S.’ job to be the world police.  If the U.S. were the designated mediator in Israel/Palestine, then it would only be right to also mediate in the various civil wars occurring in Africa and even Asia and Latin America.

Nonetheless, the pro-Israel-at-all-costs cult sees Congressman Paul as the Antichrist[5][6] trying to destroy Zion.[7]  This is a false portrayal, since Congressman Paul is a Christian and, unlike many Conservative “Christians” in the Congress, Ron Paul has actually lived up to the ideals of a Christian lifestyle through worshipping God, being absolutely faithful to his wife of over fifty years, providing for his family and teaching his children the importance of hard work, and those who know him can testify that he is true to his word.

Other ultraconservatives portray Ron Paul as being anti-military.[8]  This is also false; he spent over five years in the Air Force and Air National Guard and has repeatedly advocated having a strong military for the purpose of national DEFENSE—just the way the Founding Fathers wanted.  President Ronald Reagan even commended Congressman Paul for being an excellent advocate of national defense.[9]

When Paul says he wants to scale back the size of the military, he refers not to the amount of troops at Fort Hood, Fort Irwin, or Naval Base San Diego, but rather the amount of overseas personnel and installations overseas in over one hundred countries[10] (this does not count simple embassy garrisons).  He has repeatedly said that he was all in favor of finding Osama Bin Laden and destroying Al Qaeda, just not at the cost of invading other countries, toppling regimes, and spending thousands of lives and trillions of dollars on nation building.  This is not a farfetched vision of fighting terrorism…  After all, the CIA and Navy SEALs found Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan (NOT Afghanistan) and took him out.  This victory was possible without American troops fighting insurgents or government troops in Islamabad.

After these analyses, the only logical answer to the question of why so many groups attack Ron Paul is that he fails to meet the criteria for a statist political party stuffed shirt whose existence is dedicated to satisfying special interests at the expense of the general coffers, the Constitution, and personal liberties.
