TeleResearch: Crossover Appeal Catapults Ron Paul in Iowa

Comprehensive study of Iowa electorate puts Rep. Paul firmly in first among caucus-goers.

NORTHBROOK, IL Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is leading by a significant margin in Iowa, according to a new TeleResearch poll commissioned by Revolution PAC.

In addition to likely Republican caucus-goers, the automated telephone survey, conducted November 21, is the first to incorporate disaffected Iowa Democrats and Independents who indicated that they will not vote to reelect Obama and will instead crossover to participate in the Iowa Republican Caucus.

The survey is also distinguished by its comparatively large sample size of 2,983 individuals.

Factoring in both likely Republican caucus-goers (678) and disaffected Democrats and Independents (168) intending to participate in the Iowa Republican Caucus in January 3, Ron Paul leads at 25 percent, with a four-point advantage over Newt Gingrich and a five-point advantage over Herman Cain.

Factoring in only Republicans voters, Ron Paul is in a three-way dead heat for the lead, with Paul and Cain tied and Gingrich trailing by one point. This result mirrors recent national polls of the Republican landscape in Iowa.

The TeleResearch poll also reveals that more than 25 percent of all respondents – Democrats, Republicans and Independents – stated that an interventionist foreign policy is the greatest threat to long-term peace and national security.

TeleResearch reports that the margin of error for its study is less than 3 percent. Complete survey results can be found at RevolutionPAC.com/iowa-poll-results

“This poll really gets under the surface of the typically elusive Iowa Caucus electorate,” notes TeleResearch founder and CEO Jeff Lewis. “It’s clearly the most comprehensive study currently available for Iowa.”

Lewis continues, “Of course, the sample size of nearly 3,000 is notable. But, also significant is our proven automated methodology, which serves to mitigate interviewer bias and increase response accuracy.”

“This poll confirms that Americans from across the political spectrum are warming up to a man who’s proudly running on his record, not away from it,” remarks honorary Revolution PAC Chair Tom Woods. “We’ve seen the GOP flavors of the month rise and then fall for months now. Ron Paul’s campaign isn’t based on flashiness and superficiality, but on the record and ideas of the most principled, consistent and courageous statesman our country can boast.”

Indiana-based TeleResearch, a pioneer in the use of automated polling technology, has conducted public opinion/research surveys and provided consulting services for both public- and private-sector entities since 1993. Of the 95 candidate polls the firm has conducted during the last eight election cycles, TeleResearch has forecast 94 winners.

Revolution PAC is supporting Ron Paul’s consistent, constitutional message with targeted TV advertising, direct mail campaigns and Web promotions complemented by billboards and radio ads in key primary states. Unlimited donations by individuals, businesses and organizations are being accepted by Revolution PAC to support that effort.
