National Day of Action Monday, December 10, 2012
As Republicans force a fiscal showdown during the Lame Duck session
of Congress, a big fightback is heating up across the country. The
majority of voters and in recent polls agree. Tax cuts for the rich at
the expense of the economy and jobs is disastrous for millions of
people and bad for our country.
The first demands are: No tax breaks for the top two percent! No
cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid! This is the mandate of
the election. Visits to members of Congress, calls, rallies and vigils
are being organized. On Monday, December 10 actions are being organized
across the country.
To find the action near you visit the AFL-CIO website America Wants to Work or go to Move On or to The Action and post or find your local December 10 Candlelight Campaign Against Cuts.
In addition, a campaign is underway
to get 218 members of Congress to sign a discharge petition that would
require the House leadership to bring to the floor HR 15 The Middle
Class Tax Cut Act. This act, already passed by the Senate, would extend
the Bush tax cuts for the 98 percent.
The incredible organizing that resulted in the election victory
must continue and expand to achieve priorities that say no to austerity
and no to wars and put working people first. We need jobs not cuts.
