AUSTIN— Former Republican presidential
candidate and Senator Rick Santorum today endorsed Ted Cruz for the U.S.
Senate, the campaign announced. Santorum first made the announcement on the
nationally syndicated Glenn Beck radio show.
“Ted Cruz is just a tremendous orator
and very strongly principled. He understands these [conservative] issues at his
core and can really deliver the message,” Sen. Santorum said on the Glenn Beck
show. “We need people who can really motivate and lead… Ted really has that capability.”
Sen. Santorum noted on the Michael Berry
Show in Houston: “This is a critical turning point election in our country’s
history… I would encourage folks to get out there and support Ted. I have a lot
of confidence in him. I’ve known him for many years. And I have a lot of
confidence that he has exactly the character and the skills and the convictions
that we need in the United States Senate.”
Cruz said: “I’m grateful to count
Senator Santorum among conservatives across the country united around our campaign,
including Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity and the Tea Party Express. This race is
ground zero in the battle between true conservatives and the establishment.
It’s incredibly encouraging to see such incredible momentum five days before
the election.”
Cruz, the former Solicitor General of
Texas, has also received the endorsements of Gov. Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity,
the Tea Party Express, Senator Rand Paul, Dr. James Dobson, Cathie Adams,
George P. Bush, Gun Owners of America, Family Research Council Action PAC,
Texas Home School Coalition PAC, Kelly Shackelford, David Barton, Peggy
Venable, Young Conservatives of Texas, over 200 Texas Republican women leaders,
and more.
To date, the Cruz campaign has received
donations from over 21,000 individuals, from over 843 Texas cities, 225 Texas
counties, and all 50 States. The average donation is under $200.
