RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Statement Reacting to the Anniversary of the Stimulus Bill

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement reacting to the anniversary of the stimulus bill:

“Three years ago tomorrow, President Obama signed the stimulus bill into law, and today that legislation has proven to be an unambiguous failure by the president’s own standards,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

“The president promised the $825 billion stimulus would produce millions of ‘shovel-ready’ jobs ‘immediately.’ Last year, President Obama admitted what was already all too obvious: those jobs ‘were not as shovel-ready as we expected.’ The administration also promised that the unemployment rate would never exceed 8 percent and would drop below 6 percent in 2012, but unemployment has now been above 8 percent for 36 straight months.

“The Obama stimulus has produced only broken promises and massive debt. Americans want a new approach—one that empowers job creators and entrepreneurs. Obama, however, wants a second dose of his misguided policies. In the budget he unveiled Monday, he called for more stimulus-style spending paid for by higher taxes.

“Tomorrow’s anniversary is hardly worth celebrating, but it does serve as an important reminder of how dramatically President Obama has failed and how desperately we need a new direction. Thankfully, that new direction will come in November.”
