Make the Call to Save Unemployment Benefits

Yes, unfortunately the number one issue for right now continues to be renewing Unemployment Insurance for 2012.  Congress has yet to pass legislation extending the benefits.

Please, make a call to Congress now to keep 2,000,000 unemployed workers from losing their lifelines. The rallies across the country are making a difference, but please make the call, too!

The Restore the American Dream for the 99% Act
The Congressional Progressive Caucus introduced the biggest jobs bill yet. The bill, authored by Progressive Caucus Co-Chairmen Reps. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), would create more than 4 million jobs and reduce the deficit by more than $2 trillion over the next 10 years, making it the biggest government effort thus far to marshal the resources needed to address the economic crisis. Sign a petition in support of the act, and read more analysis of it here.

Democracy in Action
December 8th was a national day of action for jobs and helping the unemployed. In Washington DC, Occupy Congress was the story of the day. In Springfield, IL a Republican Congressman decided that he didn't like their message - literally. A chalk message on the sidewalk to support the unemployment extension bill caused Rep. Aaron Schock to call the police on demonstrators!

In solidarity,
