RNC Chairman Priebus Statement on Democrats’ Extreme Rhetoric on Voter Identification Laws

By Johanna Persing

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement on Democrats’ extreme rhetoric on voter identification laws:

“In a selfish attempt to fill their campaign coffers, the Democratic National Committee is shamelessly distorting state initiatives to end widespread voter fraud by comparing them to Jim Crow laws in a recent fundraising letter. Not only is this extreme rhetoric offensive and unwarranted, it also underscores the lengths to which the DNC will go to scare their supporters into donating to the party.

“Bipartisan efforts at the state level to require identification to cast a ballot are commonsense, widely supported and have been upheld in court. Further, by putting an end to voter fraud, they uphold the constitutional values of equal protection and one person one vote.

“In the interest of a functioning representative democracy, Democrats should be working to end voter fraud instead of seizing on the chance to mislead Americans for money.

“The DNC should repudiate their statements, admit their wrongdoing and side with the American people in protecting the integrity of our electoral process.”
